I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all (1 Corinthians 14:18)
The apostle Paul wrote and spoke much about the subject of speaking in other tongues and he apparently practiced what he preached for he said, “I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all”. I too, thank God that I speak in tongues regularly, and I wish every believer would take this as a habit and enjoy his same blessing and source of power in his everyday life.

The purpose of this particular lesson is to set forth 5 respective reasons why every believer should speak in tongue, and to help see the blessings that can be theirs through daily appreciating the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
Below are the various reasons why every believer shouldn’t joke with speaking with tongues.

BUILDING UP YOURSELF SPIRITUALLY

When Paul was writing to the church at Corinthians, he had always encouraged them to continue with the good habit of speaking in tongues in the worship of God. He also encouraged them to speak in tongues in their personal and individual prayer lives as a means of spiritual building up and edification, He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself (1 Corinthians 14:4). ‘Jude 20’ But ye beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, by so saying, we’ll realise that speaking in tongues, edifies and builds one’s spiritual life.

AWARENESS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT’S INDWELLING PRESENCE

The second reason why Christians should speak with other tongues is that tongues keep us continually aware of the Holy Spirit’s Indwelling Presence. Not only is speaking with tongues the initial sign or evidence of the Holy Spirit’s In-filling, but continuing to pray and to worship God in tongues helps us to be ever conscious of His Indwelling Presence.

ELIMINATION OF SELFISHNESS IN PRAYING

Also, praying with other tongues eliminates the possibility of selfishness entering our prayer life. For instance, if you pray a prayer out of your mind and thinking, it may be unscriptural. It may be selfish, too many times, our prayers are like; God bless my family, wife, husband and children or God help me in all my endeavours and like more. With such prayers I’ll rather say that we are selfish if such is the only content of our personal prayers. We all are expected to pray not only for our selfish interest, but rather we should pray for others welfare too.

FREE FROM CONTAMINATION OF PROFANE ELEMENTS

The fourth reason why every Christian always ought to pray in other tongues is that; speaking in tongues is a means of keeping us free from the contamination of the ungodly and profane elements of this world. For example; there is much vulgar talk that goes on around us on Job or out in public. But we can speak in tongues to ourselves (1 Corinthians 14:28) in other to overcome some challenges and temptations. If you can speak in tongues in your various local churches, it simply means that you can also do so in your various working places too and even in the public. In doing so, you will have to do it in such a way that it won’t get to disturb anybody.

GIVE PRAISE TO GOD

I can remember vividly; I always enjoy singing in an unknown tongues. Well nevertheless, speaking in unknown tongues as practically another means of rendering praises and worship to God. Obviously, you might not be ready to render praises to God, but with speaking with an unknown tongue, it’s an indirect way of rendering praises to God.

Well, having read all these, I hope you’d realise the consecutive reasons why believers should speak in an unknown tongue.
